From Trash to Treasure is an upcycling-focused design project developed in collaboration with Ghent University and Saint Louis University. The initiative transforms surplus agricultural produce from Cagayan and Cordillera farmers into a visual and narrative system promoting sustainability and food resource innovation.
Sequence
Despite agricultural abundance, a significant portion of produce from Cagayan and Cordillera farmers is undervalued or wasted due to distribution inefficiencies and limited market visibility. There was a need to reframe perceptions of “waste” in agriculture and communicate the value of upcycling through a clear and engaging visual identity system.
Mutate
Developed a conceptual branding system inspired by mix-and-match assemblages of chopped produce, reflecting the transformation from surplus to value. Designed logo, letterheads, social media templates, brochures, and campaign assets that visually echoed the upcycling process. Produced a unified identity that strengthened communication of the upcycling initiative across academic and outreach platforms.
